This new extension and refurbishment project realised in two phases and ) comprising of additional teaching spaces including classrooms, science laboratories, computer rooms and art room in a four storey extension to the existing school included a three storey atrium.
The existing school has had extensive upgrade works carried out to comply with the latest fire regulations and energy conservation with refurbishment to common areas within a restricted budget. The total project value was €6m. Atkins provided architectural, interior design, fire engineering and project management services for the project in addition to the services outlined above Atkins fulfilled the role of Design Team Leader and Employers Representative for the project and co-ordinated the input of other consultants and Design Team members. Atkins liaised with the Department of Education, Board of Management and end users including the school staff in establishing the brief and arriving at the approved design. The project was developed on the existing school campus which remained a ‘live’ site for the duration of the project.
The project was delivered using the new (GCCC) Government Form of Contract. Services provided were Architecture & Master-planning, Interior Design and Fire Engineering.
