The evolution of Offshore Wind – the journey so far

AtkinsRéalis were delighted to host an Energy Forum last Thursday in Dublin to discuss the Evolution of the Offshore Wind Industry.

The forum looked at how the industry successfully catapulted into the global energy mix and how we can create the appropriate environment and harness the potential for the development of offshore wind in Ireland.

The presentations were followed by a lively panel discussion on this emerging global industry and what Ireland needs to do develop this opportunity.

The panel of speakers included; Úna Brosnan, offshore wind strategy and business development manager from AtkinsRéalis, James O’Hara, project manager Arklow Bank, from SSEJimmy Murphy, funded investigator at UCC/Marei and Darragh Malone, Senior Project Engineer, AtkinsRéalis and Andy Thompson, Market Lead Offshore and Onshore Assets, AtkinsRéalis, who gave the introduction and overview for the event.

The very interesting and well attended AtkinsRéalis thought leadership and networking event was held in the Merrion Hotel.

There was a wide range of interested parties in attendance including governing bodies, decision and policy makers, clients, contractors, consultants, educators, researchers and developers.

Simon Evans, digital engineering development manager for Energy, AtkinsRéalis, was also doing live demonstrations, showing how AtkinsRéalis are using digital scanning and immersive visualisation technology, such as Augmented and Virtual Reality, to enhance the engineering design and delivery of their projects.
