St Lukes Hospital, Kilkenny

Development of fire safety strategy for a two and three storey extension to incorporate MAU, A&E, Pathology, Physiotherapy, Community Day Hospital, Day Services and Education facilities along with a link bridge to the existing hospital.

The three storey extension was divided into a number of fire compartments, sub-compartments and a hospital street in a circular manner such that progressive horizontal evacuation from ward to ward could be effected without having to evacuate vunerable patients to the external air until all other avenues were exhausted.

Stakeholders engaged with included the HSE South Estates, ED Department, Pathology Department, Pharmacy Department, College of Surgeons, University of Limerick, Oncology Department, St Luke’s Hospital Administration and statutory authorities (Kilkenny County Council Building Control Department and Fire Service)
