AtkinsRéalis provided PSDP/ H&S auditor for entire new LIDL regional distribution centre project which consists of 54k Sqm RDC.
A 400m stretch of the R445 regional road was upgraded as part of the development including junction upgrades and partial realignment and internal road network.
Enabling works included soil stabilisation, tubosider installation and attenuation tanks, Overall Design put a large emphasis on sustainable and renewable energy design with approximately 20% of the overall electrical demand for the 58,000sqm RDC being provided by its own solar Photovoltaic (PV) System. 6600m2 of PV panel has been installed on the roof of the building and will provide 1.2 Mega Watts of Electricity. Approximately 33% of the distribution centre is to be refrigerated, therefore a high efficiency CO2/ Ammonia refrigeration plant has been installed.
The refrigeration plant will deal with the large heat demand of the building for most of the year as not alone will it be dealing with freezing and chilling requirements, the waste heat from the refrigeration plant is recovered and is used to heat the building also. Heat is recuperated all year round to heat the slab under the freezers to prevent the ground from freezing.
